First Home Buyer Seminar

On Tuesday, 13 March 2018 we delivered an address to a group of first home buyers looking to educate themselves as they bust into the property market.

The event was hosted by local mortgage broker and business owner, Joel Cryer, from Aussie Springfield Central and we were also joined by local real estate agent, Angela Browne, from All Properties Group Greater Springfield to give a broad overview of key matters to consider for anyone entering the property market.

Our discussion focused on the legal process involved, which is often called ‘conveyancing’.

Some of our top tips for the evening were:

  1. get legal advice before you start looking for a property so that you are informed before any time pressure starts to mount and before you develop emotional attachments to your dream property;

  2. choose your lawyer carefully – when you purchase what is typically the single largest investment of your life you don’t want to engage a lawyer only to find out that your work is being handled by support staff (conveyancers, paralegals, secretaries etc.) – remember, you get what you pay for;

  3. know what you’re looking for – are you interested in buying an existing house, unit or block of land or are you interested in buying a not-yet-existing “off-the-plan” unit or block of land – your choice will change a great deal about your purchase;

  4. make use of all of the resources available to you online, such as free searching portals, transfer duty concession eligibility details and checklists, QLD government step-by-step guides of what to consider when buying property.

At LaBlack Lawyers we don’t do ‘conveyancing’ as a commodity or a thing or a process – instead, we partner with you to provide you with specialist property law advice relating to your transaction in addition to taking the necessary steps to achieve your desired outcomes.

We provide this advice in a way that is understandable, meaningful and tailored to your specific circumstances so that at any given time you are in full control of your matter.
